That is what I have understood .... The more you pummel the surface, the more porous it becomes.

The worst area of pation in the back garden was done baly by the old occupants, and I think this coming year, I will slab over it anyway.

I used a wickes all purpose brick/concrete/timber water sealant on the yard I had before which was just concrete, but I haven't used it on paving stones. The effect it had on the concrete was to bead the water which fell on it. I know you can get all sorts of surface sealants from wickes now.

    Hi pete,

It was a wickes version of this stuff

A premium interior/exterior waterproofing formula that uses the latest water-based silicone technology designed to penetrate surfaces up to 1/2". This waterproofer creates a barrier inside the surface that keeps water out, but lets trapped water vapors escape; reducing corrosion, spalling, efflorescence and freeze-thaw damage. It reduces staining due to mold, mildew, algae growth and ensures greater durability of the surface. The protection is not worn away with normal use. It protects long after the water beading is gone

This stuff recons it is applied guarrantee 10 years ?

Doesn't take long for the greenstuff to appear. Reason I went for sealed concrete for the drive was because being North facing we see very little sun at the front in the winter, and the car sometimes doesn't defrost at all! Perfect growing conditions for the greenstuff.

    Merry Christmas mate :D
