    We progressed from this

    The little drawer in the bottom held an address and phone number booklet. As you opened the drawer a lid over the booklet popped up. The bells were in a box on the wall - now in the BT museum. :blue thumb:

      We was on a party line many years ago.
      You had to pick the receiver up and listen first, if there was no one talking you pushed a button on the top of the phone in order to get a line before dialling.
      .
      If there was someone talking it was someone from up the road on the same line as you.
      You were expected to not listen and wait until they had finished before using :snork:
