@Zigs the Ostry is on the mild side for chillies but is a fast grower.

Ta Shiney :) Just ran the warning on the front thru google translate, came out as low fuel

I've put 2 seeds in to try and overwinter :)

They should germinate OK but to overwinter them you need to try and keep a minimum of 60F if you can. They should survive at 55F but it may then be better to try and propagate some in Jan/Feb.

Chillies are growing! I have two plants which currently have about 6 fruit on but there is more on the way, with new growth and new flowers! Woohoo.
          rsz_1img_3580_1.jpg

Rubbish quality picture but you can at least see they are coming along, and growing.

          However.

The seeds I got were from a Mexican restaurant after having some food there. I don't know where they get their seeds from, however, it looks like they are not all of the same kind of plant. They are meant to be serrano chilli seeds, which is vaguely what the plant above looks like. Another one of my plants looks like this, with similar numbers of chillies on.

Here is a picture of the other fruit which I have growing on 2 of the plants...

          rsz_img_3581_1.jpg

Which looks suspiciously like a Bell Pepper (capsicum) rather than a chilli!!

I wonder if their seeds were mixed up....

In any case, peppers are good, I'm just not too sure they will survive living on a windowsill rather than growing somewhere hot? The plants all seem to be doing OK so far!

@Webmaster Well done with getting them back on here. :blue thumb: Photobucket are the pits! :mute:

Our plants are still going out the door to their new homes :dbgrtmb: = more money for the charity :hapydancsmil:

The Shiney Hybrids are still going strong. These are a few of them and some are expected to find new homes on Monday when a group come round for a tour of the garden (not a particularly good time from a floriferous point of view :noidea:).
Some people buy them because they like eating chillies and others buy them as they are also ornamental - and, having been bred to be a small plant, look good on display indoors.
                    P1350326.JPG

The Nagas are for the serious chilli lovers and most of them are already earmarked for the Bangladeshi community. We have another few plants ready for delivery to their new homes. They eat them when they're green and not red as the flavour is different. If any get as far as going red they are then made into a pickle.

                    P1350332.JPG

I've forgotten what these are and haven't looked to see whether there are any legible labels  but they're too smooth to be Nagas

                    P1350331.JPG

And I haven't the faintest what this is  Someone gave it to us as a small plant and no label. Did anyone from GC bring it on Open Day?
I see that one has turned red so I'll taste it this weekend.

Top Green ones look like Padrons..... Literally, pick them green, fry in a little bit of olive oil and turn during cooking until they are blistered, remove from pan and crack sea salt over them and eat ..... Simple and really really nice.

Heat wise, about the same as a hot Jalepeno

@Webmaster did you bring it along? :) People bring a lot of things but we tend to be too busy coping with the chaos to remember or label them. I'll be eating the red one today.

Mrs Shiney says that's what she seems to remember the label says. Don't know who brought those, either
