Yes its a nice house it does have a public footpath run though there drive but most of it is private, about 40yrs ago black swans was breading there, i was led to believe this was quite rare at the time in the UK looks like they become a nuisance over time.

@martin-f they are rare and they've either had them removed or they've moved on but usually with swans...if they like an area they usually keep there

40yrs is a long time anything could have happened :dunno:, they was introduced here and threatening our native swans that's a good reason to get rid of them for me :).

I saw these while hiking in the woods and I knew it was a lichen. Then I thought: just what exactly is a lichen?

                    Here is what I found:
"Lichens are bizarre organisms and no two are alike. Lichens are a complex life form that is a symbiotic partnership of two separate organisms, a fungus, and an alga. The dominant partner is the fungus, which gives the lichen the majority of its characteristics, from its thallus shape to its fruiting bodies."

@hydrogardener, did you know that Spanish Moss which you may have seen in the SE US is named after the Bearded Lichen?

If you want to see a VERY PLUSH white carpet hop a flight to upsate New York. The calendar says spring, but Old Man Winter played a nasty trick and sent three successive Nor'easters our way. If it were not for the snowmobile tracks walking would be impossible. My walking stick almost comes up to my chin, and as you can see it is buried in about three feet of snow. There is going to be a lot of water when, and if, it melts. :rolleyespink:

After living here my entire life I could just cringe when they play: I'm dreaming of a white Christmas. :gaah:
