This doesn't quite fit the title of the thread because the camera, and photo, wasn't mine - but the plant is. :hehe:

Last year a friend (photography enthusiast) came round to take photos in our garden. She has just delivered a print of one of the plants and I have taken a photo of the print so it can be shown on here. Copyright: Heather Clarke

It is of one of our bee orchids growing wild in the garden. You can see how it got its name.

Superb photo, even your copy of it is stunning.:gnthb:

Were they introduced or growing naturally there?

      Thanks for your comments. :thumb:

Strongy, they started appearing a few years ago. Apparently they will only grow where there is a particular bacterium in the soil and where no chemicals have been used. We don't use any chemicals (pesticides, herbicides, fertilisers etc ) in the garden and the orchids have been gradually spreading through the lawns. I find that I have to recognise the leaf formation very early in the year so that I don't mow them down.

We feel very lucky and honoured that they have chosen our garden. :ntwrth: :D

Beautiful flowers you have there Shiney and great photography:gnthb:

The one and only time we have seen Bee Orchids was when we went to France many years ago and found a few on a walk we were on and got down on our knees and just couldn't stop admiring them :)
