    Lovely pictures, EddieJ :blue thumb:

An easy way to solve the focus problem and still have the camera on auto is:-
pick a subject somewhere else in the garden that is the same distance
Point the camera at it and press the shutter button half way down - that is when the camera will do its focussing
Then, still holding the shutter button half way, aim it at your subject and complete the shutter button pressure.

This works with almost every camera as the auto-focus has to come into operation first and the way it does it is with the half pressure. The half pressure stop can also be much quicker (it forces the camera to focus) than waiting for it to focus before pressing the shutter. In some shots the camera seems to take a lot of time to get its focus right and the half pressure can speed it up!

A Bank Holiday walk around Newbourne Springs nature reserve.

The reserve is a mixture of deciduous woodland, marsh and reed beds with a couple of small streams running through.

While there we heard our first cuckoo of the year, but the highlight was hearing the beautiful song of a nightingale coming from the undergrowth just a few yards away. First time I've heard one for a few years.

The moss covered roots of an old fallen tree make a striking picture.

I ran into the same focusing problem today, Eddy, at Burton Wetlands Nature Reserve when trying to photograph some Egrets and Herons that were in the water but slightly obscured by a hedge of Sedge. The camera kept getting distracted by the waving wands of Sedge and was focusing on them instead of the birds:gaah: In the end I switched to manual focusing and it solved the problem as I was choosing what to focus on.:snork:

After a mixed day of cloudiness and brightness we had heavy rain in the evening. Then suddenly, just before the sun was getting to set, at 8.50 p.m. the sky cleared and we had brilliant sunshine.
