What sort of temperature do folks try to maintain?

 

My chillies are in the utility room on the windowsill at the minute and it's quite warm in there.

 

My chillies are the only plants left in the house now . They are on the sunny windowsill in the spare bedroom , so should be around 20°c . I move them out to the GH when I have room in there , end of May.

 

Mine are in conservatory until weather gets warmer never drops below 12 degrees even in January last few weeks never below 16 deg I will not put in greenhouse until I can maintain at least 10 deg

Hi all I’ve grown chillis before only a couple in the window.

But this year with having an allotment and polytunnel I am taking it a bit more seriously and have several plants, and I will eventually put them in the tunnel.

But do I leave them in pots or should I plant them in the raised beds?

Jim , I think most people grow chillies in pots . 25cm - 30cm size is usually fine.

 

@HarryS @Loofah my original plan was to put them in the raised bed that’s in the tunnel, but I’ve done some Googling and YouTube-ing and most seem to be in pots.

Just wonderd if that’s the best way.

I may try pots with some of the bottom cut away and plant them in the bed so doing both hahaha

I grow all of my super hots in containers. Some are in my heated (58f) greenhouse but the ones in the cellar under led's are twice the size. We've had a cloudy spring so the peppers out there aren't happy.

I won't move any into unheated areas until the night lows are at least 45f.

 

I bought some "Jalapeno" seeds from Seekay Horticutural on Ebay , a long standing seed supplier. They have grown ,flowered and fruited quite well . But is it a Jalapeno ( photo below ) ? It is 4" long about 2" diameter. The other fruiting plants are the same shape. Can the first fruits be misshapen until things settle in ?It has the appearance of a sweet pepper to me

 

I've never had the first fruits being mis-shapen.
I think they sent you the wrong seed.

 

Could be a Sweet Pepper, not a Chili (pepper). Taste it

P.S. I've noticed several other different ebay sellers describing their seeds as 'Seekay this and Seekay that', when they're not being sold by seekay_horicultural_supplies on eBay

For example these 'Seekay Jalapeno'

And these are from Seekay Horticultural, Hot Pepper - Chilli - Jalapeno - Appx 50 seeds | eBay

 

The seeds were from Seekay Horticultural supplies . Looks like you both confirm they are sweet peppers . I still have my Cayennes going strong , so the sweet variety will be something new to try. How do you tell when they are ripe , when they start to change colour ?
