Reassuringly, Eon has finally updated their website.

Fixed tariff customers.
If you’re on a fixed tariff, the Energy Price Guarantee will protect you in the same way that it protects standard variable tariff (SVT) customers. Customers do not need to contact us, we will be in touch with you shortly

 

No reprogramming necessary. All they need to do is add one record in data, the new price and the date it comes into effect. If they haven't already done it they'll do it imminently. Probably over the next few days. The software will just continue to work as before, applying whatever rate is in date.

 

You have always been able to switch suppliers even on a fixed contract, so there is no way they can force you to stay on the fixed price if it's higher than the cap.

Always found his advice good, having suggested most typical consumers stick with the standard tarrif since the energy crisis started last year.

If you have not followed Martin (CBE) and the MSE site, you can sign up for his free weekly newsletter which along with his website and its forum is very informative, offering advice and savings on many other things like insurances etc . etc.

 

Hmmm, it was Martin Lewis's website, in particular one of their tariff calculators, that 'strongly recommended' I go for the fixed deal.

 

Really ?! that surprising as everytime we have heard him talking about fixed deals for that last year or so, was that of the very few fixed deals around they would only be of benefit for those using masses of energy and not for the typical consumer.

Thankfully as you say the price cap has also been applied to your tarrif , expect that covers your contact until the cap expires in 2 years time.

I put in the tariff for the standard variable rate, and the tariff for the fix they were offering. It recommended I take the fixed deal.

I'm not knocking them. It would have been a good recommendation at the time. I did it about 2 weeks before the government announced the new cap. They really should take that page down now though as it's no longer good advice. But in their defence, I guess it depends on the workload of their web team, they might not have had chance to get to it yet.

 

True, but those of us that fixed at the beginning of this month will presumably pay the higher price until October. Only a few weeks granted, but I'd rather the money be in my pocket than theirs.

Yes, but a less horrendous amount than we were earlier warned.
