Or put the clothes on the radiators which would spread the possible condensation enough to minimise any bad effects. That would possibly work in our house as we have the heating on throughout it, lower than we used to, and suffer with no condensation at all.

Or have the heating up a little bit and not wear clothes around the house therefore minimising washing :ideaIPB: :heehee:

It's less of an issue in modern houses as they have ventilated windows and sometimes additional room ventilation too.

Or just keep an eye on the forecast....simple!!

I can't remember when I last had to use ours....very rare is there a week that laundry can't get hung out at some point.
At this time of year the only change I have to make is to either wash a load in the evening or put a load on at 6am to get the full benefit of the dwindling daylight hours.

We have plenty of clothes, towels, bedding etc and so it's not a big issue as we're not going to run out, even if we have a run of wet weather. I would never dry freshly laundered stuff indoors.

What!!....your not using the right amount of conditioner.......and yes there are ones for delicate skins with no harmful perfumes and additives.

You simply can't beat laundry dried in fresh air..imo.

Our laundry gets hung outside, if the weather is good, and brought in when slightly damp. If left on the line till bone dry, clothes and in particular towels feel rough, which doesn't bother me but Mrs JWK doesn't like the rough feel. She brings them in when still slightly damp, irons some and then all into the airing cupboard.

Our problem right now is having had a combi boiler fitted we no longer have a big hot water cylinder in the airing cupboard. So we can't put damp clothes in there as they would go musty. I've bought a small tubular heater which needs fitting and hope will solve the problem. I looked into the idea of using our dehumidifier but it's not suitable for a cupboard.

Should have fitted a small rad in the cupboard as a part of the install John then it can still be used as an airing cupboard (need to fit a vent too)

Also, don;t forget to haggle where you can and ask if places price match. I remembered to try that today and got over £100 off a timber order

Looks like we may not need to worry about saving gas this winter as Ofgem is warning we may not have enough gas to save. SSE approached Ofgem to ask about fines if they were unable to supply electricity. SSE said that an average-sized power station could face charges of around £276m a day if it is unable to generate electricity. Ofgem says the UK is facing "a significant risk" of gas shortages this winter which could lead to rationing, including to electricity generating companies.

Never remember having gas cut off.
I'm sure its not likely to happen to households because turning it back on again would be a nightmare, but I could see gas power stations being shut down.
            That should suit the greens.

But if the electricity goes off then, unless you have a gas fire, your gas heating goes off.
The reason they would shut down industry (including the electricity generators) is because of the problem of turning households back on.
We lost gas once due to a burst pipe and once that was repaired (a matter of a couple of hours) they had to go around every house affected making sure everything was shut off before repressurising the system. It just required one house with no one home to delay the whole start-up. One house near us, the family were on holiday, so after 12 hours of getting no answer, they forced the door to gain access.

I read that too. I find it a bitter pill to swallow considering I went with all the eco advice, endorsed by the government, to go all electric, on the basis that my energy is supposed to come from 100% renewable sources. Yet here I am, as dependent on fossil fuels as anyone else, just paying more, because electricity is more expensive per unit than gas.

My brother in law worked for Transco and after that it changed to SGN.
The gas distribution companies around here.
He used to spend hours sitting in a van waiting for gas to be turned back on after fixing an escape.
His job was then to go to every house and check all their appliances were working safely again after the gas started flowing again.
It took hours, so turning gas off in a similar way to electricity is just not an option.

Glad I refused a smart meter;)

A new wave of smart meters will give energy suppliers the right to automatically switch off your supply if demand is too high. Under a series of modifications being proposed, networks will be allowed to turn off a household's heating or electricity without warning or compensation for those affected.
