The cost of living... what can we do?

Why couldn't we do it?

 

I cannot afford to put them on my roof never mind in the garden.

 

Ok miss understood, I though you meant similar to the French, on farmland with crops growing underneath instead of just grass like we do now.

 

There is a house not far from me that has a small windmill in the garden, just wondering how much energy they get out of that as I don't think it's that common, but i wouldn't mind one of those, tbh.

 

Seemingly small windmills are inefficient and can take two to three decades to pay back their cost. It can reduce to 15 - 20 years in a particularly windy position.

 

Small windmills surely relates back to big windmills, are they that efficient then?

It comes down to effective surface area. The effective surface area of a wind turbine is the circle that it's rotating blades traces out. Doubling the length of the blades doesn't just double the effective surface area.

Bottom line, the bigger a wind turbine's span, the more efficient it is in terms of output Vs materials and manufacturing.

A large wind turbine can recoup its cost AND carbon payback in six to nine months.
