Well maybe we could tap the house builders for more money to be passed onto the water companies.
I'm not sure how much profit the water companies make but I do know one here in the SE has built a massive holding tank for such emergencies but there must be thousands if not millions of outfalls that go into rivers, just small ones that add up.
The alternative is the sewage to back flow during heavy rain and flood houses.

They put in a massive new water main around here about 10yrs ago, and caused disruption all around for a couple of years while they were doing it, it was needed because of the new housing being crammed on green fields.

So I dont think water companies are just sitting back and taking profits as such.
But if you listen to the media they are.

Some 200,000 Octopus customers took part and between us we saved enough energy to switch off one gas fired station.

We earned £2.05, that is generous, pays for about half of our daily use.

Ahh, but did they switch off the gas fired power station. ;)
Good way to save a bit of money if you could do it every day.

I hope that is what they are leading up to, there will be more savings events and other energy companies doing it too. I guess they are learning from the exercise.

We had candles going and I had planned to read but it was too dark to see. Next time we will play cards, reverse strip poker, the winner can put another layer of clothes on :)

I'm just wondering how easy it is to start up or shut down a gas power station.

According to Octopus saving session tips, you should be doing some exercises and yoga also, we expect to see some images of you John in the near future showing us how it's done. :heehee:

I'm just wondering how much electricity it takes to run outside air conditioning in a football stadium.

Very easy, that is why they are used for emergency peaks.

Pretty quick, something in the region of a few minutes or faster if they are already primed. Certainly quick compared to a coal fired station. There are other faster stations like the Welsh Dinorwig pumped storage station is just a few seconds - practically instantaneous.

I don't understand why the push to close down gas plants, it is the coal ones that are the super dirty bad actors that need to be eliminated. I believe that gas plants, the ones with the air scrubbers, are now considered clean energy. Why shut down a plant that is fairly harmless? Better to sell at cost and help the little guy instead?

If we were all to live another 100yrs we would have a laugh at what is going on these days.

I think they have just come away from this COP thing with no world agreement on much, and I cant see they ever will.
Meanwhile "They" the politicians wander around the world in jets and stay at fancy hotels, its just an excuse for a good time.

Meanwhile JWK is sitting in candlelight thinking of reverse strip poker,

Setting a terrible example, there is so much wrong about the whole selection process. It doesn't help having a lunatic in charge of Fifa.
