I think they have used the electricity companies for the discounts because pretty much everyone has an account for electricity.

But they then have to pay it into our bank account so we can use it. Why don't they just pay it direct?

Is it not being discounted from your electric bill.

Usually depends on how you pay your bills.

If you pay by direct debit then the money from the government gets paid into your account after the direct debit has been taken. Stupid method!

If you pay your bills when they come in (bank transfer, cheque, credit or debit card) then the amount is deducted from your bill first.

Why doesn't the government pay it directly into our bank account instead of via the electricity company? No, it's not being discounted from our electric bill, they've been asked to pay it into our bank account. Also, why should they make any interest on it up until the time we use it.

The govt has no records of households being on or off the gas grid nor do they know your bank account details. Instead the govt pays the utilities who, of course, have these details.

Just heard on the news that local councils will be raising council tax by the maximum 5% plus maximum for the police and the fire brigade.
            Happy Valentines.

That's not surprising as the government are lumbering them with more responsibility without subsidising them.

According to "Government spokesperson" some £60 billion has been made available to support local councils.

They make it sound simple but they haven't actually given that amount but made it 'available' with the need for bidding and show cause. I don't know if that is additional money available but seriously doubt it.

Just London spends about 22 billion a year with their revenue being about two thirds of it. :noidea:

Our council have a history of charging and raising the absolute maximum from residents. No-one has ever suggested they do a good job with it!
Isn't it odd that they take more and more cash but things get worse and worse.
