We had the oil crisis in the 70s, oil is nearly running out they said and in a few years there will be no cars on the road.

Then they took the lead out of petrol because it was turning people stupid, and the lead out of paint because they couldn't stop people chewing the paintwork.

Then they said everything will be fine as long as we all have catalytic converters.

Then they told us all to buy environmentally friendly diesels.

Now they tell us Electric is the way to go, for some reason I'm not believing it.:roflol:

I've looked at the car tax rates but can't see £260 . The nearest I can find is £255.

          Mine is £180

And you are right. We have a high carbon tax on anything petroleum and have been told to switch to electric cars and heat pumps for our homes. Heat pumps can't handle a Canadian winter.

And now our feds have just announced that they are going to be putting a carbon tax on Electricity!!! :mute:

If you live in a town consider doing without a car.

I cycle and walk since selling our old car back last year. I haven't missed it and the savings are huge.

It requires a change of outlook, decent all weather clothes and the use of delivery services where available

So what are they not likely to put a carbon tax on?
Unless they want us all to go back to living in caves, somewhere along the line they have to accept that you cant live on the planet without leaving a footprint, I dont care how they want to dress it up, no one is, or ever will be the, so called, carbon neutral that they keep whittering on about.
I produce carbon dioxide everyday, just by breathing, are they going to put a carbon tax on breathing?

I hope I haven't given them any ideas.

Not everyone could do this, we find it hard just to walk to the nearest shop (over a mile one way) and bring back two bags. Certainly would not cycle with the steep hills and fast traffic.

I doubt it would work out cheaper to ditch the car and get taxis. Bus services are practically non existent here.

Yeah I cant walk far these days and I dont intend becoming a prisoner, it might work for a few but it wont work for me.
I'm sure getting rid of a car is a definite money saver, just not sure I'm ready for that yet, not many people actually live in a town, most are around the outside and as town centres die due to being car unfriendly the benefits of living town centre will decline as time goes by.

Not seen any come down yet, I doubt many will.
They are just going to slowly stop going up so fast.

I'm pretty terrible when it comes to most prices, ask me how much a loaf of bread is and I haven't got a clue.
Its the stuff you have to have that I never really look at the prices, its only really what I consider luxuries that I look at the prices and remember them.

Even petrol I rarely look at the price, I need it so have to buy it.
