I worked in a garden, and there is a huge cherry tree .... cherries were ripe, so I ate a few

the woman came rushing out, saying that I should not eat the berries as they are poisionous

I told her that they were cherries .... she had been living there for 3 years and never knew that the tree was a cherry tree ... I asked her for a bowl, and filled it with cherries for her

but saying that, she grew up in London without a garden

Dim , time ago i was waiting for a friend to finish his shift at an italian restaurant , is english wasn`t really good and at one point he ask me to help him to get the last order , he really didn`t get what she was asking for , so I went there and she was asking for a cherry pizza , my friend was saying we don`t do cherry pizza , she was saying that had cherry pizza many time before ......then the owner passed by and the lady start chatting to her and asking for her usual pizza......then the owner simple write down olive pizza and looking at us was saying: she is from London already argued with her before ''''' olive are green and cherry are black......I`m not a stupid city girl .
true story with all respect for the Londoners on the forum.

suppose that you get sweet cherries, sour cherries and perhaps olives can be classed as salty cherries
      :)

Living 'in the country', my daughters (like me) were taught from an early age what they could pick and eat and what they couldn't. Even in their relatively short lives, I've noticed less and less opportunities for hedgerow 'foraging', however, that doesn't mean that many of these edible plants don't still appear in (or are accessible from) my garden. Wild garlic, nettles, elderflowers, elderberries, wild strawberries, crab apples, sloes, bullaces, cleavers, ground elder, clover, chickweed and daisy flowers and leaves.
