More likely is that you had general food poisoning..

Its so easy to get this, could be as simple as your fork was not completly clean. Bacteria (given the right conditions) double in number every 20 mins, 1 bacteria can become 1 million in 8 hours! Whilst we where learning food science at College we all wondered how we survived past breakfast!

    Steve...:)

This seems more likely to me too.

There are many microorganisms kicking about in the garden, some potentially harmful to us. I believe E-Coli occurs naturally and can live on certain plants for example. Boiling (or cooking by any means) the veg is perhaps the best way to ensure that any such pathogens are dead before we eat the veg.

Different people have different levels of resistance to difference bugs too. My dad, who's never been one for fussing over his food, doesn't get food poisoning (he did twice that I know of, both times off cooked bacon oddly enough). Probably after a lifetime of eating wild brambles (and associated bugs) straight off the bush while out and about, or grazing on his allotment produce as he works, or handling his packed lunch with mucky hands etc.

I on the other hand, having been exposed to less of these things, have been food poisoned a few times. The worst time was when I went to Greece for my hols, and came back with cryptosporidium, which was not pleasant but at least it helped me lose a bit of excess weight:)
