The Garden in Winter - What do you do?

@Plantminded my mature mahonia goes pupley in autumn. T'other pair are too new to tell as they've only just been planted out.

 

No - deciduous like the others @Plantminded, but it holds them for a good while if in the right spot. A very useful hydrangea which many people tend to forget about, or don't know at all.
That one in the pic was moved a few years ago from the back garden and will hopefully get flowers at some point.
My Mahonia [Winter Sun or Charity - can't remember which] is flowering, which is slightly earlier than usual. Normally towards the end of the month. The birds enjoy the berries.
Completely natural for Winter Sun to have reddening on foliage.

 

The berries on my Callicarpa are colouring up nicely, an irredescant purple, a lovely splash of colour. Till the birds eat them!

S confusa I notice the most as it's closest to the front door and also the biggest. I find it pleasant enough as it wafts across the path, but I don't stick my nose in it unlike the Daphne odorata that grew next to it until the other year, as for the others they are still fairly small, if I remember I will have a smell of each, as they come round, and report.

 

If it's any help, @Plantminded, I grew S. humilis and S. hookeriana digyna in UK. Never noticed a perfume from the former, but the latter was lovely.

I wish I'd put the 2 oak leaf hydrangeas in the raised beds in the back garden, at the ends of my screen. They'd have been much nicer than the 2 mopheads I have there. Such is life.
