Rosa Rugosa! It will grow anywhere, seriously, anywhere. My Nan used to call it the kitchen door rose as it seemed just to benefit of the daily washing up soapy water thrown on it. Ashes, boiling hot water, anything. And it is pretty most of the year and very, very painful to approach.

And the nice kids will quickly learn to pick the berries (unless you collect the hips first to dry to make herbal tea) to get free tickling powder.

I'm digging up endless brambles in my garden - they grow anywhere don't they? You definitely need something to cause pain!

Seriously, the log roll sounds a good idea. I'm sorry that you have kids who respect nothing of anyone elses. I find these days that even some of the 'nice kids' are very inconsiderate. I'm bringing up my three boys to respect other people and their space, and I must say they stand out a mile. If everyone was brought up to consider others the world would be such a nicer place.

i had a similar thing when i had my shop and was terrorised by two youths and if you looked at me you would wonder who would mess with me ... i had a word with a couple or three of the nicer lads around here and they sorted it for me ...all of a sudden they wanted to stop and chat nicely (well after the bruising went down) meet fire with fire
