hi pro gard im very intrested into your response to this 5 years ago i had a window round and most of my round consisted of elderley folk. thats one of the reasons i think got me into gardening the knowledge you can pick up and the tips off people who were even gardening before the war was brilliant. but i always remember they would always cancel the gardener for cutting in the winter months.and that i realise myself that i am cutting later and this is the result of global warming but do you think you yourself would still be cutting the grass in the winter months say 70 years ago ;)

My grass this afternoon had dried in the bright sunshine so I cut it. If it is sunny tomorrow I hope to do other lawns.

Itermiplants, definately not in the past we would of had proper winters with heavy frosts and snow.

Some of the older folks I work for lament of years gone by when thier father oiled the mower and shut it in the shed from mid september to mid March! Still its these folks that insist on me cutting it through the winter!

Whilst the more shaded lawns are now done for the winter those that get a good bit of afternoon sun are still growing like the clappers and getting a full 85 litre grass box on weekly cut from medium lawns at 45mm cut.

On a sepertae note, saw daffs out today, normally around here exceptionaly rare to see any before christmass day!

ProGard, 45mm is about 2 inches? I'm cutting the grass at the place where I work 'cause I like it to look tidy. But I usually cut it to about 1" Is it important to leave it a little longer in winter

I would say that 45mm puts less stress on the grass especially this time of year when its growing slower. Ive tried cutting my own lawn all year at 25mm and I found I got a lot off moss also you can be cuting into worm casts.

To be completly honest I cut almost everything at 45mm as it saves emptying the grass box as much especialy on fortnightly work! a higher cut also alows me to cut in very wet conditions even pouring rain.

Strimmed a sloping lawn on Mondayas it was dry and longish. A couple of places Ill cut before christmass if things dry out if only as its easier than blowing or raking up the last reamains of leaves.

Raking leaves is a sore point at the moment, cleared 2 1/2 acres of gravel car parking and lawn ares today and yesterday 14 one ton bags full! Typically the wind kept getting up and hampering things aswell.

As long as it gets one dry day before hand so the waterloging is soaked up then the Etesia will cut it. Have to turn carefully so as not to cut in with the rear wheels though.

I cut my lawns at the end of last week as we had a couple of dry days. They look really good.
