Then, with respect to your opinion, I can state that, in fact, "someone just sitting in a call centre ... is still putting food on their table, even if they speak to no one all day" will most certainly be out of a job within the month! ;)
 As opposed to what? ... actually *knowing* about it? :dunno:  ;)
Interesting use of the word *need* :think3:
Interesting use of the word "nick", particularly in the present tense (in the context of "steal"?) :dunno: There are laws against that ;)

Hmm :think3: two very cynical points of view which really do not represent the true picture of the situation - most particularly in the context of the call centre representatives ;) Thank you for sharing your "opinions" :heehee:

However, in the interests of harmony on the boards, I will leave things just there ;) :mute:

I agree with @"M" here. By not going online and talking to someone instead you have put food on their table as they are on a basic wage plus commission. Even then it is still crappola money.

Anyways, mine went down by just over a hundred quid this year without any bidding on my part. Ok, so it's a motor trade policy which automatically covers me for cars valued up to £350000 but it just went down anyway. Same insurer for twenty years and in that time just one no fault claim which was handled over the phone so magnificently that the vehicles owner shifted his business to them!

Another thing, If an insurer does not make enough profit the FSA come down on them like a ton of bricks. Accidents are just that, they are not planned, and as such it is in everyones interests that they have adequate cash reserves to fulfill their obligations to society.

What really pisses me off is people who have an accident of some sort and then take the micky with inflated personal injury claims. One of Sues friends got knocked off her bike and suffered a graze on her cheek. First thing they did was contact an injury lawyer for you and hey presto, ten grand. She was boasting about it so I flipped a bit and informed that she was a munter before the accident and it had made no difference at all as she was still a munter!

        Rant over :heehee:

My insurance went up this year on my Yaris Verso {don't laugh}, bought it from brand new in 2000, been driving since I was 17, never had a claim in all them years of driving.

Mrs T was in a accident about 5 years ago a car drove in to the back of her when she was stopped in a queue of traffic, made a right mess of her car, she did claim. She ended up with whiplash that affected her shoulder and neck area. We didn't use one of those parasitic claims management firms, just used our own solicitor simple.

Not quite the same but the same principle. A repairer once asked me, when I asked for a quote for repair, if I was making an insurance claim. He said that he has two different prices, one for individuals and one for insurers. I asked why and he said that insurers are more awkward to deal with, and he could get away with it. The difference was £500 and I told him I wouldn't want him to do the insurance job at that high price. It only puts everyone's premiums up.

My car insurance went down by fifty quid in November.
            That "made a refreshing change."

I'm ashamed! I rarely use munter but since I found out that the forum has a naughty word filter..............

Seriously though, we moan about our premiums but having one over insurers when it comes to compo seems to be socially acceptable nowadays.

There is actually a perfectly acceptable explanation for that. The estimate goes in and it is either beaten down over the phone or an assessor comes out and beats it down. Our local Mercedes bodyshop is getting knocked down to £30 per hour on insurance work which barely covers productive staff costs. On top of that the insurers expect anything up to 10% discount on the book time which is barely achievable at 100%. They also expect all parts at cost (ie, full trade discount) and ninety day terms.

It's wrong I know, but I get my car serviced and small repairs made to my car by a golf pal whose in that business. It's always a "brown envelope job."

All the jobs I have done around the house are on "that financial basis."

Yes you can get them in the Pound Shop.

I bet some people don't know what is. a "brown envelope job."

Last year there were three, the washing machine repair, the service on my car and a foolscap one, a new combi boiler.

You couldn't possibly mean a 'backhander'. :rolleyespink:

We also have a number of jobs where we pay cash but, surprisingly, more and more of them prefer cheque or credit card. :noidea:
