On a GC West Country Hob Nob mission for a breakaway - One of my Art Garfunkle favourites. This I like very much, hope it 'ain't too soppy,
A bit too early for me Hydrogen, apologies. prefer David when more mature and I love his voice when he is in his upper range. Like this: still feeling a bit soppy today
thats why i opted for the B&W DM2 speakers .... these are transmission speakers ... it's the 'old' sound with proper bass .... I recently popped into a hifi store and listened to a few tracks on a high end system (over £30k for the system) .... I listened to tracks that I am familiar with .... the sound was way too 'sterile' compared to my system and bass was non-existent IMHO but then again, I am used to the way my system sounds .... others will say my system sounds carp a few years back, I bought a Tom Evans tweaked amp (Pioneer A300-R Precision) .... the one I bought is the fully tweaked version ... it's not the bog standard A300R .... it has a gold badge with the inscription 'Pecision' on the front face .... there are different stages of the tweak .... the 1st stage amp has a red power light .... the 4th stage (fully tweaked version) has a blue coloured power light .... Tom Evans still services these I still have that as a backup .... if you are on the market for a really good older amp, get one of these (if you can find one) .... they are as rare as hen's teeth ... people who own them, keep them, but from time to time, you do see one listed on ebay .... couple that with a pair of mission 753 speakers (not the freedom speakers), and a Marantz CD63 MKII signature cd player, some decent interconnects and some decent speaker cable, and you will have a system that costs under £500 that will blow away most new hifi systems that cost several thousand I am still looking at buying a Tom Evans tweaked Eikos CD player .... these blow away the £12 000 Linn CD12, and makes the Linn sound like a toy, and the eikos is highy sought after http://www.tnt-audio.com/sorgenti/eikose.html but saying that, test your hearing on this link: http://www.noiseaddicts.com/2009/03/can-you-hear-this-hearing-test/ if your ears are bad, it does not help splashing vast sums of cash on hi-end hifi
Hiya *dim* A quote from the link you provided..."I think I will stick to my old Vinyl Records. They still have something even the EIKOS cannot provide for the Music. A kind of being alive, of being real, of taking me into the original recording Venue in a way that CD never provides. Not even the EIKOS got that far."
I agree fully with you Freddy, but sadly, much of the new music is not available in vinyl so to quote the link again: The EIKOS is a substantially better player than it's price suggests! Am I saying then that the EIKOS is a Bargain? Actually - yes - if you want the VERY BEST CD can offer YOU MUST hear this CD-Player. My Friend who had borrowed this player for a while and brought it along thought so too and put down his money. I myself - I think I will stick to my old Vinyl Records. They still have something even the EIKOS cannot provide for the Music. A kind of being alive, of being real, of taking me into the original recording Venuee in a way that CD never provides. Not even the EIKOS got that far. --------------------------------------------------------- so, for approx £1000-£1200 you get a really good (used) cd player that will rival many cd players that cost several thousand pounds (obviously, when connected to decent speakers and a decent amp) it will not be as good as the top of the range vinyl decks, but as far as cd players are concerned, it's right up near the top (for cheap)

Actually, Pink Floyd fans (and any other music lovers) would be well advised imo, to get hold of the 'Pulse' DVD...amazing
Is this the one where they do Dark Side live? I seen it on TV and recorded it onto a DVD. I was fortunate to see them tour DSOTM before it was released. They were testing the water to see the reaction to it. Don`t remember too much about it to be honest, I was 13 I think, but the DSOTM live at Earls court show had a lot of the original footage (during On the run) from 1972. I do remember that. The plane on a wire was done in 72 as well. Didn`t half freak out the Acid droppers I assure you I wasn`t a big Floyd fan to be honest. I was a Genesis man. DSOTM is their only album I listen to these days. But back then, it was so easy to see all the top bands. Our YMCA, where I hung out at the time, would arrange the briefs and a bus. You just paid your money and turned up. Simples. £1.20 to see the Floyd eh?
