Great shots Woo and Dave, the best shots of the moon are when its phasing the craters show up better due to shadowing.

Thanks for that tip Walnut I'll keep trying, but Sod's law it will be cloudy:D
Can you explain the apparent rotation of the view between Woo's shot and mine? Here's another taken in June in Greece and Tycho is even more towards the south east.

Woo - yes I'd love a telescope attachment, but they seem very expensive. A cheaper alternative might be extension tubes on a 300mm lens.

lovely photo....reming me that to-night is full moon and for us it is Sharad Poonam
http://www.swaminarayanwales.org.uk/Festivals/festivaldetails.asp?fcode=19

a reasonable simple explanation of Sharad Poonam....not that I have any plans to attend any Sharad Poonam festivals to-night but i do recall many many Sharad Poonams where we danced till well past mid-night.:)

Yes Dave the apparent rotation you see is the time you took your shots I think Woo took is shot early am on the 13th it's not quite a full moon you can see from the shadows on the craters on the lefthand side, yours was taken later shown by the shadows starting to appear on the right of your shot, you were nearer to the actual full moon but the planet earth had rotated somewhat so your angle on the moon was different, the "full moon" happens at a precise time although it appears to last all night.
All fantastic shots like you Woo would love a 10" telescope with camera attachment,I would like to say here is one I did earlier, this photo is a full moon almost head on complete with colours.

ORANGE SEAS: The Moon is more than just shades of gray. Lunar seas are suffused with blue, purple, orange and other colors--you just can't see them at first glance. Last night, Catalin Timosca of Turda, Romania, took a picture that revealed the hidden palette of the Hunter's Moon:
The colors are real. Blue hues reveal titanium-rich areas while orange and purple colors show regions that are low on iron.

I'd just love to get a lens for my camera to do close up shots.
Have added that to my Christmas list then I'd love to start getting aquainted with telescopes and things.
