Its a beauty. That one looks a bit wolf like - but that is exactly like she is. Soft as a lamb one moment, fierce defender the next. I never used to have dogs, Duke was my first and it broke all our hearts when he died - 2 weeks after I came out of hospital after a bypass. I never thought you could trust a 'fierce' dog like an 'alsation' but at night I sleep with Poppy on the floor by my bed - she has taken over Duke's role. I know now that she would never hurt any of the family and would willingly give her life if it came to that. German Shepherds take their time getting to know new people but once they know you you have a friend for life.
I am going to look through my photos on Flickr for Duke.

Well this is Duke. Don't know how this will be cause I know black dogs are difficult to photograph.

This is one of Duke 'working' - he was a Pets as Therapy dog and went hospital visiting. Lovely natured dog but useless as protection.

If you click on the photos you get through to my Flickr site and I have my Pets photos in a photo set. If you want any photos of animals or birds let me know - I have some beautiful red squirrel shots.

They are lovely pictures Rosa. I was hoping Poppy would have made a PAT dog but it is not something you can train into them. Duke was just so calm no matter what people did. I always said you could let off a hand grenade and he would not have bothered. with Poppy the slightest sound and she is there ready to defend.

thank you geoff for letting me sketch both poppy and duke it was a pleasure and i enjoyed sketching them, just had a look in your pictures and found some fantastic dogs to sketch, which i have done a few and put them in my rosas sketches section.
I reckon labradors have the perfect personality to become pat dogs and used for the blind, german shepherds on the other hand are one man dogs and great for the police.

Just had to put in this photo that sums up what Poppy thinks of the pond. If you say "fountain" she rushes out and stands like this, usually barking. This also explains why when I emptied out the pond (see thread on Water Gardening section I found several balls and dog toys at the bottom. It also explains why the slab that she is standing on is a bit wobbly and needs recementing.
