Have you read "Mrs Frisby and the Rats of Nimh" by Robert C. O'Brien, Whiley?
If not you should as you'll really enjoy it. Mrs W. used to read it to her classes and they loved it.

"There's something very strange about the rats living under the rosebush at the Fitzgibbon farm. But Mrs. Frisby, a widowed mouse with a sick child, is in dire straits and must turn to these exceptional creatures for assistance. Soon she finds herself flying on the back of a crow, slipping sleeping powder into a ferocious cat's dinner dish, and helping 108 brilliant, laboratory-enhanced rats escape to a utopian civilization of their own design, no longer to live "on the edge of somebody else's, like fleas on a dog's back."

These were taken at about 11pm last night. :D Around 7 hours old.

And Saffy back and gorgeous and a scrummy mummy!

I've done an initial observation of each and it appears i have 4 dark coloured and 5 light colours - 2 of these lighter ones are red/pink eye, so almost deffinately Red Eyed Siamese, I believe i have a ruby eye too but i need to check this. And I think i have 4 does and 5 bucks.

Only casualty is a single black toe on one of the light coloured black eyed bucks. The black toe means it was damaged at some point during or after birth, and he'll likely lose it. But we'll love him all the same. [IMG]

Light Skin and black eyes are good! These can be Black Eyed Siameses, Burmese or Agouti Burmese! Please pray for agouti burmese! :D
The darker ones are likely to be blacks and agoutis and perhaps some darker burmese, you cant really tell with burmese as its half way on the colour scale!

Wheee so happy! Shall i keep this updated everyday with pics? I intend taking pics every day anyway so i'm happy to post them if anyone wants to follow their progress or might be interested in homing :D

How cute and dinky! How can you tell the colour of their eyes ... they don't look open?

Is nine a normal number to have ... they must have really been crammed in there! :D

If you look at the pics you can see that some have bulging black eyes and some have seemingly nothing. The blacks are black and the nothings are red/pink/ruby. [IMG] They're eyes will open n about a week and a half, its the last bit to happen! As they develop muscles, ears, fur and full feet over the next week or 2.

9 is quite a low number to have. They usually have about 12 to 15, anything up to 20 babies, so only 9 is a blessing. Nature is cruel and only gave mum rats 10 nipples! At least they get one eat and get their full nutrition.
