    Well, yes and no Strongy. A lot depends on the age of the bird, it's value in £'s, breeding abilities and how many races it has totted up. If it's a valuable bird but no good at racing it would possibly be kept to breed from. If it's a young bird on it's first race then there could also be desire to have it returned, if it's from good stock. On the other hand, if the bird hasn't done well racing in the past it's not worth having it returned when compared to the cost of doing so. :)
