Now supposed to be down to only £1.50 in some (all?) stores.

Might need a few more crackers as discovered Tesco have reduced Davidstow Cornish Classic Mature Cheddar (one of my favourites to snack on when they have freebies out to sample) at the cheese counter from £11/Kg to £5.50/Kg and they also have stacks of 50p off £3 spend on Davidstow mature cheddar, so found a couple of pieces that came to £3.01, and got it down to £2.51 for 547g, £4.59/Kg. Down to our last £30's worth of free Edam.

Went looking for Sunday reduction bargains yesterday afternoon, but as the weather was so bad thought they might reduce earlier than usual and I was right, got all these for only £1.27 instead of around £70.

      99% off:
      6 x Punnets of Mushrooms
      12 x Packs of tomatoes
      3 x Bags of Peppers
      1 x Bag of Kale
      3 x Cabbages
      5 x Bags of Carrots
      2 x Punnets of Blueberries
      3 x Bag Salad
      1 x Tub of Houmous
1 x Multipack of Houmous dips
      6 x Pasta salads
      2 x Coleslaw

      75% off:
1 x Jar of Dolmio sauce
4 x Packs of Stuffing Mix (for making really cheap veggie 'sausages')

      Free!
2 bottles of Sparkling Cranberry (free with coupons from Tesco mag).

We missed the reduced bread/bakery products, but got some free milk (coupons for signing up to a2 newsletters using numerous email acounts) that are for £1.39 each but it's on special at Morrisons for £1 so 39p off the cost of a loaf of bread.

Our food & household expenditure for December was less that £100, including of Xmas and New Year's food, feeding our daughter home from uni for 3 weeks, homebrew expenditure and 20 cans of reduced fruit cider (only 20p each because they overcharged me).

Food & household expenditure for January so far is £23.07, so should be less than £50 now there's just the 2 of us and there's no expensive Xmas/NY stuff to buy. We still only have heating on in our bathroom (except when daughter was home) and are heating the house with free wood we've collected ourselves + £12 for coal so far since end Sept. We're trying to get back to saving mode again.

I went to my local Wyevale and all climbers were reduced to £3 in 2 and 3L pots. I gave into temptation and bought a vine.:hapydancsmil: (I realise it's not a supermarket but Wyvale is supermarket like in some respects.)

Saw a Kelly's of Cornwall Ice Cream stand outside Tesco when we went for the Sunday afternoon bargains, had a few samples and it was bluddy lovely so grabbed a fist full of £2 off vouchers thinking they might get it down to something reasonable, especially if managing to get a Brand Guarantee price match against another supermarket with it on special offer.

Taken aback somewhat when we saw it was £3.99 for a tub! Then I noticed it was on offer at 2 for £5, quickly checked the T&C to verify it was one coupon per product, rather than one per transaction. But they also stated not valid if already on promotion in store :yikes: So made a trial purchase of 2 packs for £5, less 2 x £2 coupons = £1 for 2 tubs/50p per tub, and as no problem we went back for more vouchers, picking up all the ones discarded in the car park on the way, then got more on the way out.

Then checking on my supermarket found it's on special at Sainsburys for £2, so free (my favourite price), although they might reject them because of that 'on promotion' clause. PLUS FREE at Tesco if part of a Brand Gaurantee shop against Sainsburys prices. Even better would be to do an Asda Price Guarantee shop (full price so vouchers can't be rejected) and get Sainsburys price beaten by 10%, and then actually get paid 20p for every carton you buy.

We now have loads of luxury ice cream in our freezer for the summer, still keeping within our £50/month housekeeping and 20p average per meal, and masses more coupons to get more. Off to Asda and Sainsburys for some fun next week.

And these are what to look out for

I heard on the radio, today, that the Supermarkets and Fuel Stations will be installing software to the pumps so that, during peak times of use, the price of fuel will go up and not down in accordance with the "laws" of Supply and Demand.......in other words they're grabbing as much profit and giving less value while telling us it's all about the Market and they really are putting the customer first.:wallbanging::dunno::heehee:

That is how our electricity is rigged. It's only affordable between 7 p.m. and 7 a.m. and 24/7 on weekends and statutory holidays.

Smart as far as hiking rates and the accompanying taxes.....

Something else we're buying cheap at the moment (for daughter's uni hamper) are packs of Belvita breakfast biscuits, £2.59 at Tesco, £1 on special at Sainsburys and there's a 65p coupon in the current Tesco mag that gets them down to only 35p/pkt when part of a Brand Guarantee shop. It's so easy to get the number of items up to the required 10 with different flavours of Kelly's ice cream and different varieties of Belvita biscuits.

Found some more ice cream vouchers in the car park this morning and our freezers are now so full we can't fit any more tubs in them, so will be forced to eat some in order to get more in, luckily we have several packs of 75% off cones and lots of Stawberries and Loganberries.

I don't understand why the government has to pay for smart meter installation. The CEO of SSE earned 2.7m a year and has just had a bumper rise again the same day Grenfell Tower fire broke out. Talking about burying bad news. These companies should pay for them themselves. With the smart meters, they don't need anybody coming to our houses to take the reading. Something very wrong with the generous government. It gives Richard Branson loads of money whilst he slaps his logo on the train and enhance his brand awareness.

I once had a smart meter, still in its prototype form. I found out that even though I charged it overnight use E7, the following afternoon, I needed to plug it in as the charge was spent. I chucked it. Why should I spend more electricity to see how much electricity I am using when I use a kettle or this and that?! I often suspect a lot of civil servants or ministers could be receiving kick backs or promise of directorship .. signing away Treasury money for no good reason. Look at the PPIs.. a lot of hospitals need a lot of money to pay for these contracts even now... I wonder which minister(s) or civil servants were responsible for signing these dodgy deals off.

Now where did you get that idea, alp. If you look on your energy bills you will see there are various taxes that are charged at each stage of it getting to consumers are borne by the the end users.....us. Things like the "free" loft and wall insulation are included in the taxes along with separate Green Taxes. Also Energy Companies can, and do, sell to themselves and those transactions are taxed and paid by us. The Government doesn't pay for anything.......we do!!:dunno::wallbanging::snorky:

True. But still, why can't the government make these companies pay for them? Mind you, the end of the day, we all bear the brunt.
