Does everyone think highly of Mayan glods?

Rocket and kestrel for definite. Enjoyed them last year.

Could do with a good masher for the kids though, not doing piper or peer though. Any suggestions please?

I've chosen Casablanca this year as they're supposedly as good (appearance) for showing, but have much better flavour.

Looks like we could have an interesting experiment amongst GC members, how to produce the earliest crop of spuds. (And could the chitting then rooting before planting method help with Xmas spuds?)

P.S. Anybody buying seed spuds from this garden centre are not going to get an early crop!!

Thanks so much for your detailed response! I went and grabbed some "rocket" seed potatoes today from Wilko, chucked them all in egg boxes with the chitted end facing up and put them on the windowsill in the coldest room.

I also got some potato grow bags, too. I was wondering, because I've watched numerous videos and forgotten which method for which crop... are earlies a case of planting, filling container about 90% and then just watering as and when needed? I've seen instances where compost is added as leaves appear.

Also, is it worth planting really small seed potatoes? I have some smaller than a golf ball, are they likely to produce anything?

Thank you once again! Sure I'll have a ton more questions soon enough.

You need to add more compost as they grow as the tubers tend to grow near the surface. If the sun gets on them they'll turn green and produce Solanine throughout the tuber which is poisonous.

It's no good just cutting the green bit off, that's just chlorophyll, you can't see the Solanine.

Small ones are worth planting too :)

Wyevale sell them Wyevale Garden Centre

Old compost bags make cheap potato grow bags, turn them inside out so the black inside face makes them less unattractive and cut some drainage holes at the base. Roll some of the top down and start with them partially filled, unfurling the bag and topping up with compost as they grow, if outside unfurl the tops on cold nights.

So, what do folks think of the Sarpo Mira? Is it actually resistant? The flavour/texture? Yield?

Thanks very much Zigs and Scrungee!

Another question, I read that earlies, once harvested are only good for 5 or so days if stored properly. Is it possible to stagger the potting process such as doing maybe 2 bags a week? Is this something any of you guys do? I wouldn’t want to end up with a shed load of potatoes that I can’t eat fast enough. That’s hoping any grow at all!
