Rehydrating @Sheal - bit of a family gathering last night which consisted of us all sat under the gazebo in the chucking rain with the firepit in the middle keeping us all warm, and a good deal of whisky was on the go........

It seems that Mrs C and I managed to see off just over a bottle and a half between the two of us, so I am surprised that we are feeling fine and chirpy to be honest.

Both you and Mrs FC should have a massive hangover, perhaps it's something to do with the Scottish blood.

Aye, by every rule in the book we probably should - but we are fine; well, I was until I lopped the top off my finger 20 mins ago with a mandolin. An ordinary plaster couldn't contain the blood (only about 5-7mm diameter circle taken off), so we've just had to fashion a bandage out of kitchen roll and sellotape until it settles down

Nah, not alcohol related - purely a brand new mandolin and rushing to dry it; the tea-towel slipped and it was off with the chunk of finger. The kitchen roll and sellotape dressing wasn't really working (kitchen roll was sticking and then ripping off causing more bleeding), so we have since fashioned a suitable dressing from a piece of 'lady towel' and some elastoplast tape - seems to be OK.

Best of it is, I cut my thumb on the blighter yesterday, it is so damn sharp. I give up with it now - going to stick to knives.....

Mandolins ( the kitchen utensil ) always look a tad lethal to me.

If you're going to cut yourself you may as well do it properly using a knife, they make a better job of taking the whole finger off! :heehee:

They are pretty lethal - I have only handled ours twice in two days, and both days I have sliced myself; the blades are generally much sharper than a kitchen knife, and are more akin to a razor blade

Yes I know what you mean. I have one but without the mandolin guard (which should be made available with all makes really).
