Interesting. I'm trying Orange Parouche for the first time this year, using old Mr Fothergill's seed I got very cheap (6 packs for £1). I don't personally like Sungold. To me it's sweet but without much tomato-ey flavour....but it's a matter of personal choice. How does one get a good flavour growing tomatoes hydroponically? Cos if you give plants an ample supply of water they usually shoot up and aren't strongly flavoured?

Here's an article of the Rosada tomato and it's disappearance/reappearance from the far east:

Hi Cinnamon, I read that article when trying to find out what had happened to Rosada. What was not mentioned in the article was the EU charges incurred to meet their requirements of growing a production liner with one of the EU's approved commercial growers ........plus the EU Registration fee once those "requirements" were met. Anyway, I've got one packet of Rosada seed and I'm waiting for the other packet to arrive. Then later this year I will save seeds from the fruit I get this year.:coffee::snorky:

EDIT: They showed through yesterday (14/2/18), 6 days after sowing.

Today I'm sowing 3 Crimson Crush seeds, stupidly early for outdoor plants, but I want very early plants to take sideshoot (AKA 'armpit') cuttings from to increase the number of plants produced from a small packet of very expensive F1 seeds.

Gardens: tomato cuttings that’ll shoot up

The remainder of them will be sown in early April.

According to Jungle Seeds (and loads of others) they're F1 Jungleseeds - RosadaTomato Seeds

I noticed today at Wyevale that had some very tatty, leggy Toms for sale, still too early IMO even under Grow-lights. I will start mine in a couple of weeks, may try to plant the seed a little deeper to combat them going leggy.

I agree, Scrungee, but unfortunately they cost twice the price and also I have the feeling that there will be the same long delay in them arriving as they will have to source them from growers in China.:dunno::coffee::snorky:

After the recent cold snap, I've brought in some seed sowing compost to warm up in preparation for this weekends' start with my early sowings, Big Zac first on the list.

Can anyone recommend a good beef/big tomato for greenhouse growing. I usually only grow cherry toms as not keen on gardeners delight etc, but thought a big one for slicing onto lasagna or tom/mozarella salad would be a good idea.

I only got mine half price

But when I opened the first packet yesterday [1] it contained 14 seeds rather than the 10 stated on the packet.

[1] Another variety where I'm planting a few seeds early so I can propagate by tsking early season cuttings, trying to cut down on how much I'm spending at garden centres.

Some years back, I grew ‘Country Taste’. For a large tomato, I thought the flavour was pretty good.

I tend to disagree, I find "Big Boy" (available in the UK) and "Big Zac" (Not available in the UK unless your have a friendly American acquaintance) are far better and BIGGER! :dbgrtmb:

Have any of you tried cuttings? They're easy to do, take a side shoot about 6 inches long and put them in water. In a few weeks roots will start to grow, then pot them up into a 3 Inc, pot.
