            Hi @Verdun.
If you are going to graft tomatoes do you want some of the Gardener's Delight 2005 stock seed I saved from the really tasty plants last year? I recall you bought grafted GD plants in the past and I would value your opinion on what you think of these. PM me your address and I'll pop some in the post to you. I have other tomato seed varieties as well if you are interested?

A general tomato question which I thought would fit well in this thread. Mine are in the heated prop with the lid on at night but are ready to be potted on, meaning that I wont have space to keep them on heat.

The tunnel goes down to 2 degrees in the evening if its cold - the heater means that it gets no colder.

Will the plants be ok off the heat now, giving me prop space to plant more stuff ? I could turn up the stat on the heater if they need more heat and keep them close to the heater (temperature is 2 degrees 10 feet away from the heater)

They will still need some protection Andrew .ie..fleece but as long as the temperatures don't dip below freezing you'll be OK.It may well stall the plants for a short while but they will pick up again once the temperatures get more constant. Its the night time temps that I always watch out for.

Potted my tomatoes up on Monday and transferred them to the greenhouse this morning. They are now covered with fleece to keep the sun off and with a few colder nights coming up I might have to bring them in overnight. Might get away with several sheets of newspaper over the top, we'll see..

I think that is too cold for tomatoes, I keep my greenhouse at 5C and even that is too cold. Their leaves go purple and it can take them weeks to recover from the shock.

I'll crank the stat up on the heater and keep them close to the heater

Edit : Last night it dropped to 8 degrees

I grew all grafted tomatoes last year for the first time. It was such a super season for them, it's difficult to judge their performance over my normal seed sown plants. Having said that, I was so pleased with their vigour and cropping, they'll be for me again this year.

The only disadvantage I can see, is lack of choice of varieties.

Totally agree with you David K. :)
Grafted tomatoes for me have proved to be prolific fruiting, disease free and vigorous and will be growing again this year as I have done over the past 3 years or so.
There seems to be a few more varieties this year but still not a wide selection:)

True, they all seem to be Dutch names that I've never heard of. The other disadvantage of grafted tomatoes is they are much more expensive than non-grafted, it's not too bad if you only need a couple of plants but I grow two dozen so it's well worth it to graft my own.
