I've put over 50% of my spring planting onion sets into modules to bring them on quicker than planting into cold, wet, soggy, clayey soil.

Ok, Ok, you've heard that one before.

Ahem, Physalis peruviana - a plant which produces an edible yellow fruit the size of a small cherry tomato wrapped inside a paper-like lantern casing.

The seeds were sown in early January.

There have been threads about it before but none showed its progression towards maturity.

So, will these produce fruit this year, and will I get at least 1kg of them...?

I tried them while back, they grew about 1.8m high inside a polytunnel, had to be tied back to avoid blocking the central path, and not a single berry inside the lanterns developed to a usable size, even if they had ripened.
