... and have finally taken the poly off again! A few uprights also fell away. I'll eventually find time to take the structure down.

Latest pics, plus what am I missing with roofing contractors? I've asked a few and they all say they can't make the roof frame. It's exactly the same as making one for a house just at ground level! I thought it sounded like simple easy money but clearing missing something

I suppose most roof frames these days are trussed, so you would have no head room. Maybe roofers are so used to just ordering these things in rather than making a traditional cut roof themselves. It is a bit of a skill I reckon @pete would know.

Never really my field, but there are still carpenters that do cut and pitch roofs.
They tend to use it as a speciality.
Your greenhouse roof would be a doddle for one of those.

If you have an old rafter it should be pretty easy to just cut a series of them with the same angles.

I assume you will be replacing the side frames as well?
And the brickwork, :biggrin:this could end up like Trigger's broom.

Some brickwork already re-built, some is surprisingly sound!
I only asked 'roofing carpenters' as I thought they'd easily be able to knock it up :dunno: Guess not. C'est la vie, as you say Pete it's just some angle cutting. Once I get the main beam in place ...

I'm sure you can tackle it yourself Loofah.
Just cut one as a pattern and then cut the others to it.
I'm a bit suspicious about it in that it looks as if it's sloping down hill, might be camera angle.
If it is out of level and not true it could be why no one is interested.

Ground slopes, brickwork level. Until I get my hands on it at least lol

It's the ridge that looks out of level.
It appears to slope in comparison to the side framing.

You can ignore anything wooden, it's only hanging together by woodlice holding hands!

I'm thinking about the aesthetics and ventilation if the greenhouse recently.
What's the thinking on permanently open ventilation? Basically a gap near the base and one near the top?

I think it depends on what you intend growing in it.
Biggest worry would be during gale force wind, it could blow the glass out if you have no way of closing it up.

Could the existing wooden frames be replaced with frames containing opening window units? That would give you lots of ventilation in summer, but enable you to overwinter tender plants.

That's a very fair point! I was thinking of under the eaves and just below the ridge line being open but that might be problematic in high winds

Small update, as this is still a long term project and I'm doing it but by bit.
I've been removing loose bricks and the bed of mortar over the top; I've then confirmed a hatred of brick laying by reinstating the walls. As the remaining timber was removed more stuff came loose if course so I'll make good when I can.
It's more or less ready to start the frame. I'll plan a bit more before ordering a huge pile of timber but it will sit on a bed of mortar to make level and we'll go from there...
