But more work today but very annoying on / off rain made me stop.

 

Question for folks - should I bother with a bird mouth cut on the rafters or a simple angled cut (butt joint)? I can't see any real advantage to the bird mouth and it's much ore effort!

 

Short ones on the section to the left. As it's sunk into the ground there's no additional frames needed

After a week off due to a damaged neck and shoulder... I got to the bit I've been dreading - the ridge plate. Spirit level says it's level but my eyes say there's an error. Not huge but there. I also need to adjust the position of the end of the support on the left hand side as it's not quite in line (can't see it from the pic)

 

I've left a good overhang on the right, not sure how I'll finish it off yet; maybe a gibbet... The one on the left will form an awning or somesuch

 

There's a slope on the garden which might be skewin' the viewin'. The right hand side of the left section is central, the left end needs adjusting so that might be it.
The wall plates are just on the existing wall layout so I'm stuck with it! Will be measuring and checking but will have to fix any issues with crafty carpentry

Wall plates and brickwork is all level (at least according to the spirit level!). The ground can also make it look wonky.

Today I'll be making a template rafter so I can check all round that it's all the same length

Walls are just with 1cm of each other on RHS and even better on LHS. Wall plate is aligned on top.

Didn't really make noticeable improvement today but took down the ridge and made adjustments to the level and have removed the wonk (you couldn't see it on the pic). Have roughly marked spacing for rafters and made a template for the RHS which fits quite nicely both sides. I'm still pondering a bird's mouth cut but the effort is putting me off!
