The war on slugs

    I know I mentioned porridge on another thread yesterday about slugs. Highly insulting to Scots- we'd never waste that on slugs!
    I've always noticed them eating any remains of bird food though, so perhaps a bag of cheap stuff around vulnerable plants is worth trying, as long as the birds don't get there first! Maybe done at night?
    When I chop ends off cucumber and put it in my back door container for bits and pieces [ before it all goes to the main bin] the slugs love that. Perhaps some slices would attract them to that instead of plants.
    Worth a try, especially if, like me, it doesn't all get eaten before it goes soggy. I'm the only one in this house now that eats it.

    Feeding slugs is an interesting alternative to killing them - unless you end up attracting them.
    If you leave bird food out, you might well attract rats. Do they eat slugs?

    Blackbirds and thrushes eat slugs. But not 200 at a sitting.:phew:
