Had to help with the Xmas shopping yesterday at M&S at The Meadows in Camberley, supposedly their biggest store in the UK, blimey was it packed.

We went with my Brother & Sister-In-Law and they are not early birds, by the time they have got up and faffed around its mid-day and everyone else is heading there. If it were just us we would have got there first thing, in and out before the crowds arrive.

Nearly 5 hours of torture hanging about whilst every single item in the gift section was picked up examined and commented on, some of them twice - I'm sure we started going over the same things after a while.

We mainly went to get a new TV for Father-In-Law who saw a bargain advertised in the paper, they had sold out - 40 units just before we got there  So we then went to Currys - also sold out but found one in Comets. When we took it back to Father-In-Laws he's put up his Xmas Tree in the space allocated for new TV, he doesn't want to use it till after Xmas - how I laughed :(

:gnthb: Aaron that is fantastic... I rode a motorcycle for many years as my only transport, daughter had to do the pillion passenger ..!! Not good on Birthday party days & can tell you..!!!! :hehe: I know exactly what you mean about getting cold & wet...!! All that water off the tank for starters....!!!!!
Also been like a Michelin Man on some very early long cold frosty rides & you start to peel the layers off at about 10.am before you even start to feel warm...!!!! Your partner certainly knows what is best, now you can enjoy those wet rides a bit now.. Nice one you two..!!!! :gnthb:

:dh: Oh dear John... Not the best of days for you then, but well done you for getting through it.. Must have been some very wry smiles about when you turned up with the new tv at Dad's at that news then.....!!
I wonder if he will change his mind between now & Christmas..??

Will have to catch up and read through this entire thread, as it seems to have changed from the original and looks rather interesting :)

However, Alice....I am guilty of calling my 'garden' a 'yard'. I think that comes from living in Canada - where a 'garden' referred to a garden bed.......like my 'vege garden' is in the 'yard'.....the yard being the grassed area, ie, back yard, front yard, which would both contain 'gardens' - be it flower garden, perennial borders, vege garden etc. However, I'm now sometimes referring to my 'yard' as a garden, as I have realised that a yard here is nothing more than a 'space' that is usually loaded with discarded waste!

    Thanks Alice,

The 'man flu' has almost gone - just a little bit of a cough left. Phlebitis has cleared up, suspected DVT is now unsuspected (hope so). I haven't let it stop me doing things but nothing too strenuous - although I never do anything too strenuous nowadays :hehe:.

It had better clear up soon as I'm off up the Amazon in a few weeks :gnthb:.

The Minister for Transport has announced an enquiry as to why the country has come to a standstill so if you have any ideas do let him know!

    Oh good,

Traffic. Why do some drivers, usually the one in front of me,stop before they have reached the car in front, pause & then slowly edge toward the car in front, stop again & then just when you decide its safe to put the handbrake on, edge forward again

Why can't they just pull up and stop ?

My thoughts exactly, just stop and put the hand brake on.

It wears out the clutch and has no real benefit other than weeing off the rest of us and creating a crawling queue.
