I've got one of these http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B001HJBG92/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i01 which was £14 when I bought it; with the display in the house it picks up the temp from the sensor in the greenhouse fine. Reasonably accurate (about +- 0.5'c) when tested against the expensive kit we have at work. Ive just bought a second one as its just as cheap to buy the display + sensor so that I can have a second sensor outside to see how well the greenhouse heater works.

Im still thinking about something to automatically log the temps to my computer for top geeky pleasure.

My personal view is that a simple "display" model is nothing like as good as a logging on. I want to look back at the night to see how sharply the temperature fell, and for how long - and of course to compare this-year against last-year, or today against last week.

I've been getting on just fine with the AREXX ones I bought recently. The signal drops out at times, but usually only for an hour or so, so the shape of the graph is still "obvious".

Bit more expensive than a thermometer though. But so is SatNav compared to buying an A-Z Map ...

With the cost of these important items being a bit high for us at the moment, we will be sticking with this and my fathers Barometer for now. The web will be able to keep us in touch with what the weather holds and hope that times are more favourable in the new year.

Quite agree - look out for Min/Max on Ebay - look at 'Antiques/ garden / ... / You can probably get a really nice vintage one for around £10.

Not much out there at the moment. I shall keep my eyes open for it in the new year now.

I got mine from Lidl at least 7 years ago, I have it in the bathroom , which has a north facing window. The little sensor goes through the window.
