@ViewAhead They count the amount of medals, but obviously a gold is for the IOC more worth than 50 silver and bronze medals

I bought 2 cosmos plants at the farm shop in April. One of them just three days later it lost its top by a nasty slug or snail over night.
Much to my surprise, this morning, I was greeted with a flower and it said, "hello Simone, here I am, I have survived".

"You are a fighter, and I'm so glad that you made it", I said.

I do actually talk to my plants :-)

Well you're supposed to pinch out Cosmos so maybe the slug was doing you a favour!

In that case, all my clematis are being done many favours @Escarpment! Unfortunately, I have to disagree....
The thing that's made me happy recently, not just on one day, is the frequent visits from the little willow warbler who's been around. :)
Getting back out on hills is always a reason for me to be happy too.

Finally got the Eleagnus hedge-cutting finished. The deal is that I do the sides (done 4 weeks ago) and OH, being a six-footer, does the top (not done until today). I did invite him to take a metre off the height, but he's come up with every excuse under the sun for doing **** all.
So...out came the platform ladder and I did it myself. It's now level, looks lovely, didn't disturb any birds, there were no wasps' nests and I'll have found someone else to do it by next year

Indeed! A Career Golden Slam. :dbgrtmb: Federer might not be so happy as he is the only one of the Big Four not to achieve a gold in the Singles. Andy snaffling two thwarted his plans.

Carlos will get more chances, I'm sure.

It doesn't take much a Bee moving from flower to flower collecting nectar and pollen a Sunrise starting off a new day ,the sound of the dawn chorus and many more things "The best things in life really are free";)

Totally agree @wiseowl. We often forget to just enjoy the very simple things.
Watching all the sparrows mobbing the feeders with their youngsters, and all splashing around in the pond, is one of my great pleasures.
They seem to have had more clutches this year - I assume because they were able to start earlier as the weather was so benign here in spring. Between myself, and the chap across the front from me, we're enabling a very good colony!

I'm always on the lookout for the positives.

Too many people see only the bad things in life, but I do believe that gardeners have a more sunny outlook - even though they may have so many failures with growing stuff. The successes make it all worthwhile.

Long may it continue, fellow green-fingered friends!
