Mrs Shiney needed to renew her passport and it had just less than six months to go on it. Some countries won't allow you in if you have less than six months on it :dunno:. So we thought, to be on the safe side as it was all over the news the other month that renewing can take ages, it should be done in plenty of time.

We went to the post office where they process it all electronically for you and also take a photograph to go in the passport. She had to hand over her old passport for them to send it off to the passport office.

The service was excellent and the progress was updated by email at each stage. Time from going to the PO to receiving the new passport - eight days :hapydancsmil:

Thank you PO and passport office.

The process is very efficient from abroad, too. I was pleasantly surprised to get my renewal back within 11 days. It was reassuring to know that something still works well, after recent dealings with the DWP and Inland Revenue

One hr in the garden = one 3/4 full green bin! :) Most satisfying! :blue thumb:

Not exactly made me happy, but I have been watching a series on Lucan over the last 3 nights (on iplayer). It involves Neil, the son of Sandra Rivett, who was the murdered nanny, trying to track down Lucan. It really moved me. Neil comes across as a lovely man. Utterly obsessed, but so genuine. He believes he has found Lucan in Australia.

Now why the police have not leapt into action to take a DNA sample, thus settling the matter, is interesting. But the programme is not really about Lucan. It's about a boy who never knew his real mum (although he had a happy childhood with adoptive parents) and wants to somehow show he cares about her.

Three utterly compelling hrs. I recommend. :)

I'm not keen on him @Loofah, but he has gone above and beyond, and deserves every bit of praise he's rightly getting. It's now nearly £9 million apparently.
He certainly got a helluva welcome when he crossed the finishing line up here too. I listen to R2 every day, and the amount of folk in tears because of the stories/messages etc, has been incredible.
Of course, I wasn't crying at any point...no sirree....it was just the rain on my face....

I was made several times aware in the recent days that I had my birthday today, and everyone of them stressed that I wouldn’t look like 60 (it’s not my fault, runs in the family).
I had originally planned to go to Avebury for dinner but work until 5 and driving on a country road in darkness? Not what I really wanted.
At lunchtime, we went to a pub, which we had discovered 4 weeks ago. I expected it to be empty and wasn’t really keen on it.
Much to my surprise, the pub was full with pensioners because it was Thursday, senior’s day, as we learned.
While sitting and waiting for the meals, OH and I joked if OH could also apply for a senior price. OH will be 70 next year, but is full time working because the company can’t find a replacement.
I found it weird to have crossed the 60’s line, in particular everyone believes that I’m 40. It’s not always easy. People don’t take you seriously. When I was 35, I needed an ID to show that I’m over 18! when I bought cigarettes.
While eating, it was a really nice atmosphere. All pensioners knew and talked to each other.
I felt really happy sitting in a pub which was unexpected full with happy pensioners who met for a nice pub meal, and I accepted the fact that aging doesn’t stop in my case, and saw myself sitting there at some time in the future.
Coincidence or not, the Home Office made me a present telling that I’m now a UK citizen, and officially on paper after the ceremony mid December.

The other month I was in Tesco buying some beer for our slug pubs and the till wouldn't approve of my purchase without being checked to see if I was underage. I got a laugh from the assistant and people around when I said quite loudly "Do you need to check my I.D. to see whether I'm underage?". :heehee:

Congratulations on reaching 60 and not being horrified at having to act the part. Not so sure about congratulations on being a British citizen - you are going to have to start acting the part there. :rolleyespink::biggrin:

Thanks to all for your congrats @Bluejayway and @shiney :)
I was so surprised because my solicitor said it takes 3 to 4 months but the Home Office decided already after 4 weeks.

Sounds strange I know but I felt being British before I actually moved to the UK 18 years ago. OH is Cockney and had lived in Berlin for 25 years.
                            I’m proud @Tidemark.

I will now think about my charity walk on the occasion of being British as a sign of gratitude.
