No, that's not a law, it's the Haberdashery Fairy. After it has finished mending those tiny tears and wears on the clothes you just shoved in her cupboard, it just can't stop.

A waistband button would look so much better if moved inwards just a bit, the dresses surely would be more flattering if the corset part was a tad tighter, and jeans certainly must be let out to accommodate the muscular parts.

So off goes the Haberdashery Fairy, and whilst her vision and the reality of the development of my body don't quite match I can't complain too much. The Biodiversity Fairy who lives in the hard-to-reach corners of my baking things cupboards is much harder to live with

This doesn't work if you have a young daughter who confiscates all of your cast offs and anything that fits her current style (including my expensive non- cast off woollen overcoat ) to marinate in her wardrobes for years until they emerge into the scrap clothes bag to be turned into crafty projects.

Once they have been used in crafty projects, the inevitable "Mum... where's that blue top I loved when I was 15? " begins.

A 1979 Mini, commercial coffee machine, OJ machine, a safe, brand new dishwasher, more stuff, and tins of paint of course.

 

I'll take the coffee machine, OJ-Juicer, safe and dishwasher please....

But I really feel your pain. My parents always want to gift me with things they bought 20 years ago on a dubious TV-shopping Programm. But I figure, if they haven't used it for 20 years without missing it, chances are I won't need it either.

Don't collect kitchen stuff you don't need. Two good knives and a big cutting board can replace have the electrical stuff you can buy nowadays

 

Same here. They are a real pain to (un-)screw without a perfect angle and lots of space to move.

It's funny how my Phillips-screwdrivers are used up almost to the hilt whereas the flatheads are almost brand new (and mostly being used to open up cans of paint)

 

You reminded me, my old pump screwdriver, actually wore this one out and bought a new one about 3 or 4 yrs before getting my first cordless drill.
They were fun to use with slotted screws and you could do a fair amount of damage if you slipped off the head of the screw, bit of an art to use properly.

 

I prefer #8 or larger robertson screws. The square gives a firm hold. Lots in the states are now catching on to it as I am getting more and more products that come with the robertson screws for installation rather than the Phillips.

 

We used to use those for Kreg screws, but what is catching on a lot now even for wood screws is Torx heads.

 

I've got the torx screw driver sets but so far I've only used them for automotive stuff and occasionaly some electronics.

I have some power tools that I haven't used much but will still keep. My reciprocating saw, my metal chop saw, my 90 degree power drill, my small sander and a few others.

I do need to sort through my trays of parts that I take along for installations. Probably lots of junk in those!

The Robertson head never really took off in Europe, well I have never seen them. I understood that the square drive was really good. Phillips has nearly died off replaced by Pozidrive.
