This and That ... perhaps of interest ...

I've never fancied Marilyn Monroe. Nothing to do with her body, which looks perfectly fine to me. I got the impression she made her money by playing the bimbo, knowing that's what men at the time (and only to a slightly lesser extent now) couldn't resist. So in a way she was just a gold digger.

I think it's always been true that the most attractive quality in a woman, or indeed in anyone, is the confidence to be true to themselves, whatever form that may take. So if I was to broadcast a message to anyone that is really self conscious about their appearance it would be this. Don't try to be someone you're not. If you want to make true, meaningful connections with your fellow human beings, just be whoever you are. Some will like you, some will not. But the ones that like you for who you are are the ones that matter.

 

I didn't mean it in a disrespectful way. I didn't know her. The point I was making is that she capitalised on traits that she could sell. That is exactly what we all do. Nobody is going to pay money to watch me sing and dance, so I sell my computing skills instead. To be honest, I don't even see the term gold digger as derogatory in the way some people do, as long as it's clear what's going on. Marilyn Monroe played on her feminity to make her money. Everybody understood this. I don't believe anybody was unwittingly manipulated. That is fair enough. The other use of the term gold digger, which is absolutely not the use I intended, is when someone pretends to be something they're not for the sole purpose of extracting something from someone who they've deliberately mislead on a close personal level.

 

So agree, and she did it well. I think Blondie emulated her. What I heard about MM many, many years ago is that her personal hygiene was much to be desired!

Here is an Idea on what to do with a dead tree that the storms and strong winds pulled out of the grownd. They cut the tree down and they "planted it" upside down, with the roots at the top. Then turned it into a beautiful planter.
