    I always remember a picture of my Uncle on the beach at Hastings with his suit and tie sitting in a deckchair, it was in the 50s with the baggy trousers and the turnups.:biggrin:

      I have a picture of me and family on the beach at Gorleston near Great Yarmouth (probably late 50s) and my Uncle was in a suit sitting in the sand and my Aunt in a posh dress in a deck chair. Uncle was a factory worker so this was a special occasion to wear a suit.

        We visited Barcelona in March a few years back, the weather was like an English summer. We visited the beach in shorts and t shirts expecting to find all the beautiful people sunbathing, instead they were wrapped in long overcoats and hats. It's what you are used to I suppose.

          Did anyone see that old round the world gardens programme with Monty Donn.
          He was the only one on the beach in Florida wearing a scarf.

              It is so true how you quickly learn to acclimatize. Lately our day temps have been +/_ 16c with sunny blue skies ... but we are in jeans and sweatshirts and when J goes out he puts on a heavy padded gilet and we look 'normal'. The Portuguese will also have hats and scarves on.
