I go along with the starling contingent!

It used to be a regular thing on my way home from university - walking through Glasgow at the beginning of the evening, these enormous flocks of starlings would be flying around making just the sort of din you describe, MD - VERY noisy, and rather messy.....

You don't see as many these days, just like sparrows - a great pity.
