I've posted about this problem fairly recently after getting the 'too big' error message after trying upload an image that I had copied from an old GC post of mine, it previously uploaded, but something was now preventing it being accepted.

Not sure if this will have a bearing on things or not, but the JPEG compression format can vary significantly in file size for the same size picture (as in the same resolution), depending on what the content of the picture is.

For example, an image such as this one:

      hill1.jpg

Would create a much smaller filesize than the likes of the image below, even if they were taken on exactly the same camera set to the same resolution:

      city1.jpg
The busier a photo is, the larger the file size will be. Now, it could be that the majority of pictures are just slipping in under the size threshold but as soon as something 'busier' is being uploaded, it is throwing it over.

Do you have MS Office @redstar?

When I used Windows 7 nearly every single one of my pictures failed to upload on GC and it was nothing to do with size. This went on for three years and during that time I tried using different browsers which made no difference. I found that the only way to load them was to use a different time of day when GC wasn't busy, morning was best although I still had the occasional failure. Evening time when most members visit was impossible.

I've now been on Windows 10 for a few months and had no issues until today. The pictures uploaded but hung for a couple of minutes before doing so.

I cannot upload photos from my iPhone anymore, I used to be able too , it doesn't seem to matter what size they are

I wonder if a 3rd party plugin could be implemented to resize images on the fly? I don't know whether this would increase the load by much on the server though?

Have no clue what that is. LOL. The thing is----I have used the same camera all along with this forum without issue. So truly do not feel I have to adjust at my end.
