This is seriously worrying.

Yes you're right @Clueless 1 v2 . Statistics can be twisted sooo, using your logic, all of the wheat, canola, etc we ship to China should add the pollution costs of our farming to their already 30% contribution to the entire world's pollution. They have the option to stop using coal to produce their power but they don't. They have the option to stop dumping garbage in the ocean but they don't. And it goes on and on.

I acknowledge that tnere is a dirty problem but all the electric cars in the U,S., Canada, Britain, will not make a spot of difference to what the biggest polluting countries produce.

They have choices and they elect not to take them.

Perhaps someone should start a Gofundme for Greta to go to those countries as she seemed to miss that giant advisory opportunity!

Come to think of it computers and the Internet use lots of power so perhaps I should keep my posts very short if I really believed I was a big part of the problem :rolleyespink:

    Pretty much, yes.

It's all about passing the buck. 'nowt to do with me mate', 'it was like that when I got there', 'some bigger boys made me do it'.

When you consider that the single primary goal of anyone in government is to keep their job, and that depends on winning votes, which government in their right mind is going to be honest and say, 'yes folks, it was us, sorry, we knackered it and then lied to cover it up'.

But we have been importing and exporting for hundreds of years.

Do you suggest we stop all imports.
So as not to skew the statistics.

I'm not suggesting anything. Just pointing out the massive flaw in the analysis that led to the British government's 1% claim.

Not just ours. China have pointed out many times that their emissions are so high because they make everyone else's stuff.

Nobody in positions of power want to take any responsibility. They just want to keep the public on side so that they can keep their positions.

I didn't think its the British governments claim, I thought it was the the accepted world figure.

Well China could stop making everyone else's stuff, but they wont.

The method of calculation gets fiercely debated at the likes of the COP meetings.

At the same meetings, developing nations, under pressure to lower their emissions because they haven't been able to afford the same investment in renewables, like to correctly point out that much of the co2 in the air today was put there decades ago by the developed nations, but this detail also gets excluded from the agreed analysis because it paints a very, very different picture to the one that is widely pushed today.

Strange how we can take the blame for putting all this stuff into the atmosphere for a couple of hundred years but its only suddenly making a difference in the last couple of decades.

I'm sure the scientists will manipulate their theories to work that out much the same way statistics get modified.

We in the UK could stop buying all that junk the Chinese churn out. Shipping the tat round the world hardly seems like a good idea and is obviously bad for the planet. We purposely check all things we buy now, it's difficult but not impossible for things like household equipment, usually it's a bit more expensive but will last longer. The turning point was recently when I had to replace cupboard handles in our bathroom, it was cheap flat pack stuff from B&Q made in China, the chrome handles were such poor quality they were corroding and flaking after only 3 or 4 years old. I have lots of my Father's hand tools, made in England or sometimes USA, all well made and will last forever, including some power tools. Chinese equivalents have built in obsolescence so we have to keep going back to buy more.

There's no need to manipulate anything. It makes perfect sense and is easy to verify in the wealth of data that's been gathered from multiple independent sources.

Not surprised about that, it's inevitable that China will produce the most C02 by volume, they have been the most populated country until recently. Yet when you look at emissions per capita you get a different picture.

Tesla is probably the best selling BEV in the UK, yet probably all of them were manufactured in China.

If we are to be more conscious about buying goods from where they are manufactured, then our wardrobe would be the first place to check. Other wise we would all be shopping naked with the amount of clothing that is produced in sweatshops in the far east for the western market.

When you look at the UK's exports and imports by value, they are very similar. We roughly import 6% more in value than we export, but when you look at it by volume you get a totally different figure. We import 100% more than we export when going by weight and volume.

I worry about the future for my kids. I see huge sweeping changes in the world today, and I can't fathom how it will all pan out.

We can see climate change coming. That in itself is bad enough. But it's not the only thing that will change the world within the next couple of decades. Society needs to change, but it won't. Within the next few years we'll start to see the first jobs disappearing as AI takes on many of the more repetitive, less skilled jobs. The savings that companies will see from that, combined with further technological advances, will spur bigger companies on to replace more people.

The media is scaremongering about it now, but they're wrong, for now. Contrary to what the media would have believe AI is still not ready to be anything more than a niche tool but that is changing rapidly.

So by the time my kids are at an age where they're heading into the world of work, they're going to be facing a different world to what I know. Climate change, cultural shifts as we see an influx of climate refugees from countries that become too inhospitable to live in, and AI replacing an ever increasing number of roles, and I have no idea how to help guide them into such a world. I think it's going to be interesting times ahead.

Rishi Sunak's plans to knacker the environment seem unpopular for some strange reason. But not just among the peasants it seems.

Billionaire investor threatens to pull out of UK amid global outcry at new oil rush

In a nutshell, in recent days, Rishi has encouraged people to drive as much as they want, reversing funding for 'active travel' projects (walking and cycling), and ordering a review of LTNs, and promising over a hundred new licenses for oil and gas drilling in the north sea. Even the Americans are mocking us for it. But it seems it goes further than mockery, with an Australian billionaire saying he's going to move his UK investments out if our government goes ahead with its plans.

Oh, in case anyone is wondering why Rishi is doing all this, it's because Britain appears to be skint. Anyone who has savings in a pension fund of any kind, beware, he has plans to raid that too.
