Back to topic or nearly BIG THUG Ground Elder

Yes there is life after gorund elder. When we first moved into this house every bed was covered in ground Elder. My father dug up every bed and riddled all the soil through a sieve! within 2 years it was all back - there was even a root of elder that had grown through a brick to get to light!

the only way to control it is with spray and roundup is brilliant, however the trick is first of all to buy agricultrual roundup - which seems to be much stronger than stuff from garden centres, and then to spray without prior disturbance of AND do not disturb the roots until well after it all looks dead.

this takes a long time of empty beds, but will pay off. then you can replant (making sure there is no hidden roots in your plants, then just spot spray.

we can't get rid of it completely as we live by field and stream, but we have it under control - that is unless we blink!

Thanks for all your suggestions re ground elder. I shall just keep on digging out with a little help from 'Round Up' - unfortunately it is in the midst of my herbaceous borders - not easy.

Exactly where mine was chobart, but I failed to keep on top of it - and thats what you have to do, if you don't wish to start from scratch again. Mind even if you start from scratch, if its coming in from outside the garden, it will just recurr.
