1F1A21ED-F62D-4CD9-846B-E3EFD7FA96DD.jpeg spent the whole day in the garden yesterday chipping away at the massive list of jobs I have for this project. I have been building this up slowly over the winter and the time had come to start the boring task of staining all the wooden structures I have built. I will get some pics along the way as things start to come together, these arrived yesterday and cheered me up as I was slowly loosing the will to live whilst staining in the cold wind.

Thanks for the responses everyone will try update regularly with some pics as I can, the garden looks like there’s been a nuclear strike at the moment. Hawaiian is the theme here complete with beach type sign post all in Hawaiian. The colour scheme is chosen to represent each of the islands of Hawaii as they apparently have a colour flower for each island. Wish I had a plan drawn out to post but I like to keep myself awake at night thinking of ideas. Managed to stain a lot of the wooden framework today and am happy it’s brought out the grain as expected. I’ve been thinking today about creating a small cosy seating area in front of my observatory but need to make sure it’s going to be big enough to not be too cosy. Back at it tomorrow while the weather is good, I just wish the garden was bigger so could have a full blown beach where I could really bankrupt myself

Matt, I very often find that taking photos of the ''before mess'' can be good incentive to get a plan into shape. As you make progress you can look back and feel nice and smug about the progress.... not only that, if you gaze at the photos with a nice glass of something after dark, there could be a sudden flash of inspiration. upload_2018-2-16_19-14-26.jpeg

You can see the carnage from removing 10 conifers to complete the fencing round the garden. Others showing the concrete patio which turned out to be 12 inches thick in some places. Finally quick snapshot of one of my musa basjoo leaves from last year.

Well I imagine you already had the bonfire?
Thinking back - (rather a l o n g time) I remember having a similar blank space to deal with, and no idea where to start.
The more ideas I had, the worse it got, until in the end I almost gave up altogether.
It was my dear old mum who gave me the best advice. She said - pick a corner... any corner, and transform it. While you`re doing it don`t look at any other part of the garden. When you`ve done stand back and admire it before you get on with the next bit.
She was right! The whole job flowed after that, and the more I did the clearer it all became.

Sometimes a completely pre planned idea can end up looking a bit too clinical.
You now have a bunch of very interested members here waiting to see how you get on. Good luck, enjoy it :)
