    Hi Armandii
I have just bought this B.Glabra standard from Homebase , which is allegedly one of the hardier types. I have potted it up into an 8" pot , and placed it inside the larger stainless planter. I have packed all the spare space with polystyrene to act as an insulation from the cold and then 25mm of golden gravel on top . While it is so small I can lift the pot in October and bring it into the house. Hope I can keep this one , the last 2 winters have wiped out virtually all of my semi tropicals :gaagh:

Hi Harry, thanks for the pic and advice. I'll do a bit of research before I buy a bougainvillea but that one of yours, like Pete's, had me drooling at the mouth again:D

Did you lose your semi-tropicals because you left them outside and weren't able to bring them in?:cry3: I lost some treasured hardy plants after that last harsh winter. Some of them were up to 30 years old and had stood many a bad winter, but the last 3 winters have been so bad that they just gave up.:rolleyespink:

    Hi Armandii
Most I could not bring inside , but I lost yet another cordyline which I wrapped in bubble wrap and put in the greenhouse . My Meditteraneam palms went , my phormiums sundance and tricolours ( thought they were tough ! ) A 7 year old camellia........and others :cry3:. They had all survived the 2009-2010 winter with minor damage but the 2010-2011 snow and cold snap came on very quickly. Normally we have very little snow in the North west. I will be far more careful this winter
