I used to live in Papua New Guinea and cordylines, like most garden plants, were propagated by pushing a stick (hardwood cutting) into the ground. Not always the most pictureque regrowth, but it'll survive!

one of our neighbours cut down their cordyline to about 5ft a few years ago, id say it would have been topping maybe 12 ft beforehand, it sent out multiple shoots just below the cut area and looks very well now indeed with a big head of foliage. cordylines are tough

Thanks Cinnamon and honeybunny that's encouraging.

Mine has some new growth at the very top so I might be lucky, no sign of a new growing tip but that might be hidden amongst the new leaves.

I hadn't realised they had a scent, is it a really sweet smell?

There is a very sweet scent near my flowering cordy and I haven't been able to track it down to anything I'm growing, guessing it was next door's roses. The flower on mine is too high to sniff without a ladder :)

This is a photo of my flowering Cordy posted on the "Whats Looking Good in June" Thread, I personally think the flower is stunning, difficult to capture the full colours on a photo:

there was me thinking maybe im mistaken and its actually a different plant giving off that awful pong, seeing as u guys like the smell of cordylines  so whilst out walking the dogs today i spy a garden whos cordyline flowers were reachable! :th scifD36: so i stretched over and picked a bit off (hoping to god nobody would come flying out the door and catch me :phew: ) anyway i crept away to a safe distance and had a sniff, this was the first time i got to smell a cordyline flower up close and i can honestly say....it was even worse than id imagined! just vile! :eeew: ive definitely been blaming the correct tree!

if you lot think thats a nice smell well....your off your bloomin' trolley! stark ravin' bonkers, the lot of ye :rolleyespink:

I'm pleased to say it's recovered well.

First photo is April this year before the damage:
                        20140426-P4260066.jpg

Then just after I'd damaged it in early May:

and now a couple of days ago, still not fully recovered, but by next year it will have regained it's shape:
