I love Ribes.. so I purchased what was supposed to be that lovely red but it turned out a
wishy-washy pink an that went in the dustbin, and quick before it got its feet down. ;)

Ohhh rosietu, you should of waited for it to grow up a bit, ive had them for years and just planted a hedge of them because they are lovely and grow fast, they get redder the older they are, mine are a bit insipid at the moment, but i will be patient and this time next year they will be dark pink.

Nonot sure about that, mine have been in the garden for about 20 years and still wishy washy pink. I do think it is the variety.

I think there are different varieties that come in different shades of colour.
It seems to self seed around here, but is always red, only plants that people have bought seem to be pink.

Ribes sanguineum 'Pulborough Scarlet' is the one you want, glorious colour! 'King Edward VII' is a rather insipid pink for my taste, but, if you want something a bit different you can try Ribes aureum, Golden currant, has yellow flowers and the berries are edible.

Ribes Again...........This plant really is growing from the top of the wall.
The book says grow in moderately fertile well drained soil in full sun,it's certainly well drained.......... ;) [IMG] [IMG]

Sometimes nature does it much better than we can, it looks really well on its diet of mortar.
