Is there something wrong with me? I love washing lines, the good old traditional washing line running the length of the garden with fresh clean clothes flapping about! I think it reminds me of my grandmothers garden many years ago.
Sadly I can't have a washing line, we have too many trees for the clothes to get caught up in. We have a whirlygig thing in the middle of the gravel cottage-garden area. It looks terrible, although I am fanatical about taking it down when not in use.
My hubby is very eco-friendly, so I'm not allowed a tumble dryer, in wet whether clothes go on the airer which hangs over the Rayburn.

We had a whirley thing but it never went round. The hedges and trees are that effective that we don't have much wind, we are in a dip and they rotted or broke and the clothes are really close together. To work properly they really need to be whirling round and I never see that happening. So my wife got me to put in a post at the bottom of the garden and i put a retractible line on a post at the end of the trellis, only she never retracts it. Then because she does not want to walk across the lawn in damp weather she got me to put another post across the patio so she could turn the retractible thingey round and have a line across the hard paving. Instead she just tied a line permanently across so now I have two lines. They thread through the shrubs and trees but she just uses the bits that are clear and she has these poles that lift them higher.
She reckons you cant beat the smell of air dried washing and from my point of view i would rather it was dried without using electricity. Don't know what she will think when i get my bees next year. When they leave the hive they frequently void their bowels. i think I will plead ignorance if she says she is getting little yellow specks on the clothes :D

We have plenty of room for it to whirl Geoff, it never has tho!

Bee's, now i am very interested in Bee's, i have quite a few plants and shrubs chosen to attract Bee's :D Must admit i have never seen what comes out of a Bee's bowels tho, pray tell me more [IMG] I think i would rather Bee poo than pidgeons on my washing

Well don't stand in front of a hive in early spring when the bees make their first flights. Cause the first thing they do is get rid of several months of accumulated bee poo! They are called cleansing flights. Aren't you glad that pigeons don't store theirs up.

Flowerchild those rotary lines are saw an eyesore but better to have one than no line at all!

Shiney no clothes eh? Bet your feeling the nip in the cold nights air!

Geoff now you mention it my rotary line hasn't ever spun round on it's own which does seem strange as now we live in a wind corridor!

Maybe Mrs.Geoffhandley will not complain too much about bee poo on her laundry when she gets that lovely honey for her hubbies bees...maybe yellow spots will become fashionable in the future! [IMG]

We have three beehives, although they don't live in our garden. They live on a friends smallholding about 1/2 mile away, so I don't have to deal with bee poo. The perfect solution!

It seems the rotary/whirlygig lines are quite popular here....but I wonder how many of you really pack them away after you use them?

I try to remove them after I have done the washing but more often than not I 'forget' although I'm sure that will have to change once the back garden's finished.....or maybe not :D

Rotary lines are only meant to rotate for ease of putting the washing on they then act like a weather vane with the least amount of washing heading into the wind once in this position they stay faily static.
