Round here, everyone either has apple trees in their gardens or they know someone who has one. The local Freecycle type site is full of people offering apples for horses, pigs or cider.
We picked 120 kilos yesterday and there are still three trees full left untouched.

Know what you mean and so many are so good but there are only so many you can eat. And only so many pies/tarts/crumble you can make without getting fat!

Interesting. At least they are not being wasted.

I have the same issue, returned Mon 05.00 am from 2 weeks in Cyprus so today dead headed the dalhias and cut the grass. My apple crop is very, very much less but around 40 apples, I decided to leave and see how they cope with the storm forecast although so far (21.00 pm) it is still quite calm. If I get windfall I will collect in the morning, mine will go to making apple pie/sauce.

While in Cyprus I came across some Carob trees, well actually I saw someone pick one and taste so enquired as to what it was, Russian girl but I got the jist of it. I googled it and decided there was no practical way I would use them otherwise the suitcase would have been filled with Carob pods. Images below.

You can avoid the fattening part and still have the cooked apples by topping it with a thin layer of fat free, gluten free, sugar free, dairy free 'crumble'.

Cook the apple the way you like and then top it with a thin layer of ground almonds mixed with sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, Pine nuts etc. Not too much or it will also be fattening. We only use about a quarter of an inch of ground almonds and a sprinkling of seeds and nuts. Put in the oven until there's a slight colour to seeds and nuts.

We have lots of friends that come round for meals and, when you get to our age :old:, a lot of them are diabetic and/or gluten intolerant or lactose intolerant. It's actually quite a nice topping for apple :blue thumb:

I just delivered 2 huge sacks of apples to our friendly pigs. They will be sweeter than anything the way they tuck into the fruit.

We've picked most of the cooking apples from a disabled friends tree, collected all the usuable windfalls, made apple pies for him (and us), bagged up some picked apples for him to give to others, pressed enough cooker juice to mix with eater juice (bottled last year) made 18 galls cider, and cleared away all the rotting windfalls to a compost heap at our plot.

                    Hate to see anything wasted.

P.S. The wind has blown down a mass of walnuts, but before the casings are quite ready to fall away, so it's a rubber glove job getting them off.
